Introduction
Mulch is one of the most important — and most underutilized — tools in landscape health. A proper mulch layer suppresses weeds, retains moisture, moderates soil temperature, protects roots from damage, and gradually breaks down to add organic matter to soil. Over time, healthy mulch creates healthy soil, which grows healthier plants.
Millburn Landscape provides comprehensive mulching services across Salt Lake City, helping property owners choose the right mulch type, apply it correctly, and maintain it for maximum benefit.
About This Service
Mulch choices depend on your goals and aesthetic preferences. Shredded hardwood mulch is attractive, long-lasting, and helps build soil. Pine bark mulch is lighter, more open, and good for plants that prefer excellent drainage. Colored mulches provide visual pop but often contain dyes that fade and may not break down as quickly. Arborist chips (fresh wood) are inexpensive and excellent for soil building but look less refined.
Application matters enormously. Correct mulch depth is 2-3 inches — deep enough to suppress weeds and conserve moisture, but not so deep it traps moisture and causes root rot. Mulch should not touch tree or shrub trunks — wood touching bark invites decay and pest problems.
Proper mulching saves money on weeding, watering, and plant replacement. Underdone or missing mulch means more work, more problems, and less healthy plants.
Our Process
We assess your garden beds and landscape, discuss mulch type preferences and your goals, and provide an estimate for complete mulching. We apply mulch at proper depth, maintain the correct clearance from plant trunks, and ensure even coverage throughout your beds.
