Introduction
Compacted soil is one of the biggest problems affecting lawn health in Utah. When soil becomes compacted — which happens naturally over time from foot traffic, mowing, and settling — water and nutrients can’t reach roots, and grass struggles to thrive. Lawn aeration solves this by opening up the soil structure and creating pathways for water, oxygen, and nutrients to reach the root zone.
Millburn Landscape provides professional lawn aeration services across Salt Lake City, using equipment and techniques specifically suited to Utah’s soils and grass types. A properly aerated lawn is healthier, greener, and far more resilient.
About This Service
Aeration works by pulling small cores of soil from the lawn, which opens up compacted layers, improves water infiltration, and stimulates root growth. In Utah, where we have naturally clay-rich soils, aeration is particularly valuable — it’s one of the highest-impact things you can do for lawn health.
The best time to aerate in Utah is early fall (September) when grass is actively growing and can recover from the stress. Spring aeration is secondary but also effective. Summer aeration during heat stress is not recommended.
Aeration works best when followed by overseeding — the small holes provide excellent seed-to-soil contact and the disturbed areas encourage new grass to establish. Many properties benefit from aeration plus overseeding every 1-2 years.
Our Process
We assess your lawn, discuss timing and goals, and schedule aeration when conditions are optimal. We aerate thoroughly, leave the soil cores on the lawn to break down naturally (adding organic matter), and optionally overseed if desired. We provide care instructions for the weeks following aeration.
Why Choose Millburn Landscape?
We own proper equipment and understand Utah’s specific soil challenges. We know when to aerate, how thoroughly to do it, and how to maximize results. A properly aerated lawn is noticeably healthier and more vigorous.
